Turaki-led PDP Rejects Endorsement of Tinubu for 2027

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has distanced itself from reports claiming that the party had endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement signed by Hon. Muttaka Balarabe Yakubu (MBY), the group described the reported endorsement as false and insisted that the Turaki-led PDP had neither endorsed nor would ever endorse the All Progressives Congress (APC) or President Tinubu for re-election.

The statement said such a position was inconsistent with the ideals, vision and founding principles of the PDP, adding that those promoting the endorsement did not represent the aspirations of genuine PDP members committed to providing credible opposition and democratic accountability.

According to the statement, the Turaki-led leadership remains committed to rebuilding the PDP into a strong, independent and people-oriented political party capable of serving as a viable alternative to the ruling APC.

The group said it rejected every attempt to subordinate the PDP to the interests of another political party or undermine its role as Nigeria's leading opposition platform.

It further stated that its struggle was not driven by personal ambition but by the need to protect the integrity, independence and democratic identity of the PDP.

The statement argued that no political party could effectively hold a government accountable while at the same time campaigning for its return to power.

The faction, therefore, urged loyal PDP members and Nigerians not to be misled by statements that, according to it, do not reflect the convictions of those committed to the survival and restoration of the party.

It reaffirmed its commitment to standing with Nigerians, defending democratic values and providing what it described as a credible alternative for a better Nigeria.
